I visited Zoo Madrid from April 28-30. Po & De De have been outside for one month and it was so great to see them in the outside enclosure. The weather has been good since they debuted outside with Queen Sofia on March 29. The cubs have been outside every day and they have been exploring the fresh air and especially the trees and climbing structures in the garden.
Hua Zui Ba is still taking care of one of the cubs in the morning and of the other one in the evening. The cubs are still need her milk and the bottles they receive from their keepers. Hua Zui Ba has proven to be a good mother, but she also enjoys her afternoons without her cubs.
Bing Xing was very happy with his food. Zoo Madrid had the chance to cut a large amount of very old and big bamboo. It is really huge and an excellent treat for a big panda like Bing Xing.
You should hear him breaking this bamboo.
Now that we are talking about bamboo, Po & De De are learning the most important thing in a panda’s life… Eating bamboo! They receive some young bamboo and bamboo shoots every day so that they can try out panda’s favorite food. They are mostly sucking on it, but they have been eating a little bit too…
This means that the cubs will become less independent on milk, so it could become possible for the two cubs to be together with their mother. We will see what will happen in the next months…
It is so special to see the panda twins, don’t forget that Zoo Madrid is the only zoo outside of Asia with 2 panda cubs. If they already haven’t done this, Po & De De will steal many people’s hearts this summer…
The new shop and restaurant was opened at Zoo Madrid two weeks ago. New gadgets and especially many new panda t-shirts are available for sale. Who doesn’t love these Po & De De t-shirts?
Po (right) & De De (left) were born at Zoo Madrid on September 7, 2010. They both weigh 14 kg.
