Ri Ri & Shin Shin mated

Ueno Zoo’s panda pair mated on March 11 & 12, 2013. Zoo staff saw the female Shin Shin and male Ri Ri, both 7 years old, mate Monday evening and again Tuesday morning. Kazuomi Nishikiori, director of education and information at Ueno Zoo, declared himself delighted with the animals’ progress. Last year a cub was born at Ueno Zoo, but it sadly died after one week.
