Male giant panda Yuan Yuan, left Chengdu on April 16, 2019 for Austria and met the public in at Tiergarten Schönbrunn / Zoo Vienna for the first time on May 20, 2019.
Peng Youdong, Deputy Administrator of National Forestry and Grassland Administration of China attended the ceremony, and handed over Yuan Yuan’s archives to Margarete Schramböck, Federal Minister for Digital and Economic Affairs of Austria. The ceremony officially started the giant panda research program on Yuan Yuan. The 4-year research on Yuan Yuan in Austria will enhance China’s cooperation with Austria in areas such as breeding, disease control and prevention as well as the reproduction of giant panda.
