Yuan Yuan gave birth to a panda cub at Taiwan’s Taipei Zoo on July 6, 2013. The zoo, located in the southern suburbs of the capital of the Republic of China, announced that Yuan Yuan gave birth to a cub at around 8:05 p.m. Saturday. Television stations interrupted routine news programs and coverage of the Golden Melody Awards, also in Taipei, to report on the panda birth, the first ever in Taiwan.
Yuan Yuan picked up the baby in her mouth and brought it to her chest right after the birth, demonstrating dearly her care for the newborn.
Lin Huei-chen of the zoo’s press liaison affairs said it is too early to determine the baby’s gender, but added that the zoo will publish the latest news of the mother and baby every day at 10:30 a.m.
