Edinburgh Zoo and 442 Design have joined up to create a new Talking Scottish Panda app that has just launched. Called Pom Pom panda, this new panda in town is almost as cute as real life giant pandas Tian Tian and Yang Guang!

Featuring Edinburgh Castle in the background and wearing a tammy hat made from panda tartan, Pom Pom is the most loveable Scottish panda cartoon around. Responsive to the user and with voice recognition, Pom Pom speaks back to you using your accent and in your language – meaning there is no language barrier – you can also tickle Pom Pom, who can dance a jig, munch bamboo, laugh, snooze and can even give you a kiss. The app also features an educational element with giant panda facts.

Downloadable from iTunes for only 69p, a percentage of each purchase payment goes towards the conversation work of RZSS and the upkeep of the real live pandas at Edinburgh Zoo.

Jon-Paul Orsi, Digital Manager for the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland, said:

“RZSS are delighted to launch this brand new Talking Scottish Panda app developed in conjunction with Edinburgh based company 442 Design. Not only is Pom Pom one of the cutest pandas around, it is great fun, has an educational element and also helps raise vital funds for the charitable conservation work of RZSS. The timing couldn’t be better too as we are just about to find out when the real life giant pandas at Edinburgh Zoo are likely to be off display during their 36 hour breeding window, so it’s great that Pom Pom is around to keep panda fans of all ages entertained.”

David Dunn, Managing Director of 442 Design, adds:

“The Talking Scottish Panda app is a great way to keep children entertained and support the pandas at the same time – it’s also fantastic for all panda fans too. It’s a natural continuation of 442 working with the Zoo team on projects like the new Penguins Rock which help create a visitor experience that is fun and relevant on a world class level. An android version of the Talking Scottish Panda app will soon launch at the end of April and a similar version will be launched in China in the summer.”
