ZooParc de Beauval’s Huan Huan & Yuan Zi will go for the solitary lifestyle, Kai Kai & Xin Xin did the same in Macau

When you look at your own children you might think, wow they are growing up to soon. But this is the way life works and everybody will go through new periods in life…

This is the same for giant pandas, when they reach the age of 4 they will become adolescents. Adolescent pandas can be a little aggressive towards each other, one of the first signs of their ‘solitary lifestyle’. Giant pandas are only interested in other pandas during the 2 or 3 day mating season and want to stay alone in peace during the rest of the year.

It is for this reason that the panda pairs in Macau & Beauval, all born in Chengdu in 2008, were recently separated. Kai Kai lived together with Xin Xin and Huan Huan with Yuan Zi at the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding before they moved to Macau & France.

Kai Kai & Xin Xin were living together at the Parque de Seac Pai Van in Macau since December 18, 2010.

But don’t worry panda fans! They still love to play, but now alone…
You don’t need another panda to explore, to climb, to eat bamboo, …

We wish the 4 pandas a happy solitary life…
