Name the National Zoo's panda cub
Giant panda Mei Xiang gave birth to a cub at the Smithsonian’s National Zoo on August 23, 2013. The cub is healthy and growing quickly! It is Chinese tradition to celebrate the name of a new life on the 100th day, and we need your help picking the name! Click here to vote for your favorite name.
Voters will have five Mandarin Chinese names to choose from:
Ling Hua (玲花) — darling, delicate flower.
Long Yun (龙韵) — Long is the Chinese symbol of the dragon, Yun means charming. Combined this represents a sign of luck for panda cooperation between China and the U.S.
Zhen Bao (珍宝) — treasure, valuable.
Bao Bao (宝宝) — precious, treasure.
Mulan (木兰) — a legendary young woman, a smart and brave Chinese warrior from the fifth century; it also means magnolia flower in Chinese.
