Tai Shan & Mei Lan: 1 year in China

One year ago, 2 of the United States most famous pandas moved to their parents native country China. Tai Shan & Mei Lan left their birth towns on February 4, 2010 to participate in the giant panda breeding program.
Let’s look back to their lives in Washington D.C. & Atlanta and their future in Ya’an Bi Feng Xia & Chengdu.

 

Tai Shan (male) was born on July 9, 2005 at the National Zoo, Washington D.C., USA.

He has studbook number 595.
His name means “Peacefull Mountain” in Chinese.

His mother is Mei Xiang (473) and his father is Tian Tian (458).
He is the first surviving panda cub born at the National Zoo.

Mei Lan (female) was born on September 6, 2006 at Zoo Alanta, Atlanta, USA.

She has studbook number 649.
Her name means “Atlanta Beauty” in Chinese.

Her mother is Lun Lun (452) and her father is Yang Yang (461).
She is the first cub to be born at Zoo Atlanta.
