Global Naming of UNDP Pambassadors

Submit your name ideas for the cubs born to Qing He, a giant panda at the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding! Winning names will be announced in May 2016. Make your entry on www.sdgpanda.org.

The Global Search for UNDP Envoys and the Global Naming of UNDP Pambassadors are sponsored by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP); the China Wildlife Conservation Association; the Sichuan Province Wildlife Conservation Foundation; and the Chengdu People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries. The initiative is organized by the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding; the Chengdu Giant Panda Breeding Research Foundation; the Sichuan Longxi-Hongkou National Nature Reserve; and the Beijing Jinshang Longying Cultural Communication Co., Ltd., with support from the Department of Wild Life Conservation and Natural Reserve Management of State Forestry Administration; Forestry Department of Sichuan Province; the Chengdu Municipal People’s Government; the Forestry and Gardening Administration Bureau of Chengdu City; the Chengdu Municipal Foreign and Overseas Chinese Affairs Office; the Chengdu Tourism Bureau; and Dujiangyan Municipal People’s Government, along with assistance from 24 zoos in 17 countries.

Global Search for UNDP Panda Envoys

You could be selected as one of 17 lucky individuals chosen to be UNDP Panda Envoys! Film and submit a “panda selfie” video featuring giant pandas in the background, or take your video in front of the publicity board located near the giant panda habitat at Zoo Atlanta. Describe why you should be chosen as the UNDP Panda Envoy for the United States! Winners will be selected in April 2016.

UNDP Panda Envoys will . . .
* Experience “A Tour of the Giant Panda’s Hometown” in Chengdu, China, the only megalopolis in the world where giant pandas exist in both the wild and in zoological settings;
* Meet and help care for the 2015 panda cubs at the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding;
* Visit Sichuan Longxi-Hongkou National Nature Reserve, Anzihe National Nature Reserve, Tangjiahe National Nature Reserve and Heishuihe Nature Reserve to learn more about the conservation of wild giant pandas;
* Visit primary and middle schools in impoverished areas in Chengdu, and meet 17 local students; and
* Visit Mt. Qingcheng, Du Fu Thatched Cottage, Wu Hou Shrine, Jinsha Site Museum, and Kuan Zhai Alley to learn more about the traditional culture in Sichuan, including the tea culture, Taoism, Shu Dynasty embroidery and brocade.
