Qing Qing has given birth to a healthy cub on June 27, 2014 at the Ya’an Bi Feng Xia Base of CCRCGP. It is Qing Qing’s first cub. Qing Qing was born on February 23, 2007 after a record pregnancy of 324 days.
When Qing Qing reached estrus in March, Lu Lu and Mei Sheng were selected as potential breeding partners for Qing Qing but natural mating did not occurred due to Qing Qing aggressive character and Lu Lu’s semen was used for artificial insemination.
Since it was her first cub, at first Qing Qing was a bit overwhelmed and her cub fell on the ground but after several attempts Qing Qing managed to pick up her cub and hold it in her arms. According to the staff observed that the little guy is a loud and healthy baby panda. Although somewhat clumsy, Qing Qing is showing a strong maternal instinct, retaining her cub tightly, currently mother and child are together. The staff is closely watching the situation of mother and child, to choose to remove the cub for weight and gender identification.
