First day at the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding
Today was our first day at the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding. Our host families drove us to the Panda Base. At the base, we first walked around some panda exhibits. We saw different yards and lots of pandas and there were information boards of all 12 Pambassador finalists. The first extremely amazing moment of the day was when we saw the keepers feed 4 one year old pandas. Is was so fun to watch and take pictures. After the small tour we received some safety regulations about working with pandas. The “Launch Ceremony of training Chengdu Pambassador” at 11u00 was again an incredible moment. All Pambassadors really feel very lucky and are very happy for getting this chance!
In the afternoon we got 2 more information sessions and they told us 12 giant pandas were chosen for us to take extra special care of this week. Later we made a bigger tour through the base, looking for these 12 pandas…
The 12 pandas are:
Si Yuan (female) was born on October 22, 2004 at the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding. She has studbook number 593. Her mother is Qi Yuan (491) and her father is Shi Shi (467).
Xiong Bang (Japanese name = Yu Hin) (male) was born on December 17, 2001 at Adventure World Shirahama. He has studbook number 540. His mother is Mei Mei (408) and his father is Xiong Ming (Japanese name = Ei Mei) (390).
Qiu Bang (Japanese name = Shu Hin) (male) was born on September 8, 2003 at Adventure World Shirahama. He has studbook number 574. His mother is Mei Mei (408) and his father is Xiong Ming (Japanese name = Ei Mei) (390).
Jing Jing (female) was born on August 30, 2005 at the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding. She has studbook number 598. Her mother is Ya Ya (362) and her father is Ko Bi (386).
Xing Bang (Japanese name = Kou Hin) (male) was born on August 23, 2005 at Adventure World Shirahama. He has studbook number 614. His mother is Mei Mei (408) and his father is Xiong Ming (Japanese name = Ei Mei) (390).
Wu Yi (male) was born on August 7, 2006 at the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding. He has studbook number 630. His mother is Qi Zhen (490) and his father is Lin Lin (455).
Da Jiao (female) was born on August 30, 2006 at the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding. She has studbook number 645. Her mother is Jiao Zi (365) and her father is Lin Lin (455).
Mei Lan (female) was born on September 6, 2006 at Zoo Alanta. She has studbook number 649. Her mother is Lun Lun (452) and her father is Yang Yang (461).
Shu Yun (male) was born on August 5, 2008 at the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding. He has studbook number 718. His mother is Shu Qing (480) and his father is unknown.
Shuang Qing (male) was born on August 25, 2008 at the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding. He has studbook number 727. His mother is Da Shuang (453) and his father is unknown.
Zhi Zhi (female) was born on August 23, 2009 at the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding. She has studbook number 763. Her mother is Yaloada (494) and her father is unknown.
Qi Qi (female) was born on September 28, 2009 at the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding. She has studbook number 764. Her mother is Da Shuang (453) and her father is is unknown.
