Queen Sofia visits Zoo Madrid's Panda Cub
Her Majesty the Queen of Spain, Reina Dona Sofia, visited Zoo Madrid on the morning of November 28, 2013. She came to see the panda cub born on August 30, 2013.
The Queen of Spain is very interested in panda conservation and in the collaboration between Zoo Madrid and the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Brreding. As with Po & De De 3 years ago, Queen Sofia had the chance to meet the little panda cub up close and to hold the fourth surviving male panda cub born in Spain.
The Queen was received by Parques Reunidos Zoological Director Jesus Fernandez, Zoo Madrid’s Director Ricardo Esteban and Zoo Madrid & Faunia’s Director of Biology Augustin Lopez-Goya.
Zoo Madrid & the Queen’s panda history go tack to 1978 when King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofia receieved Chang Chang & Shuan Shuan after their first official trip to China. After the death of their son Chu Lin in 1996, the Queen played a crucial role in the breeding loan of Bing Xing & Hua Zuiba, who arrived at Zoo Madrid in 2007.
