Er Shun and Da Mao have settled in very well to their new habitat at the Toronto Zoo.

Here is an update by Maria Franke, Toronto Zoo’s Curator of Mammals:

They are eating a lot of bamboo and they both like the Aurea species. They are currently getting young bamboo growth and they both Love it! The keepers weight them regularly and Er Shun just out beats Da Mao weighing 100 kg and Da Mao weighs 99.8 Kg.

The official CFIA quarantine is over and staff are allowing both pandas the chance to explore all of their new habitat areas.
They are getting more and more curious with their new enrichment items and Da Mao loves to participate in his training sessions with the keepers. Er shun is slowly catching on to her training routine.

The Chinese giant panda experts, Guo Wei is visiting us from Chongqing Zoological Gardens, Chongqing and Li Mingxi is visiting us from Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding, Chengdu have been a tremendous help working alongside the Toronto Zoo keepers and their expertise has been invaluable.

The Toronto Zoo is preparing now for the official opening of their panda exhibit on May 18, 2013
